Cudillero
Cudillero is a lovely coastal county in the centre of Asturias (somehow towards west, to be precise), and that’s why this is an strategic place from where to visit all the region. But now, I want to show you that very very close to the houses you have many interesting things to discover.
Any time is good to be here. In summer the atmosphere in the streets, squares and “terrazas” is lively and warm and winter brings peacefulness to contemplate the rough sea. At this very moment you may have a look at the harbour without moving from your seat.
But Cudillero is much more than the lovely village with its restaurants, bars, cider-bars and fishermen harbour. There are many typical villages, some of them almost lost in the countryside, wonderful natural beaches and the cultural legacy left by the Way of Saint James. Let me remind you some of it:
Silencio natural beach
Spectacular unspoiled beach, one of the most beautiful in Asturias
Asturian spectacular beach without road access. To reach it, it must be done on foot.
This beach is located in a natural setting Cudillero. Its length is 500 meters. In this half-mile combined protective cliffs, the islands scattered in the bank and the special quality and color of its waters. As appears at first glance, its main attraction lies in its conservation and thus requires respect for the environment by their visitors.
VidĂo Cape
The VidĂo Cape is a landform on the coast, in the council of Cudillero-one of the most important of Asturias-
The cape is in the village Oviñana, next to the lighthouse which bears its name. It is the most prominent geographical feature of the council. From this place the visitor revels in his productions and sunset. The views of the coastal strip with cliffs over 100 meters high are hard to forget.
All this area in the direction of the council of Valdes is declared protected area of the West Coast.
San MartĂn de Luiña Church
Declared of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Culture of the Principality of Asturias in 1999, the XVII century temple is regarded as “one of the prototypes better defined Asturian coastal church, both in its overall value, as in the conservation of most of essential constituents”.
In the temple floor tiles, there are signs that marked the limit to the called “vaqueiros”, discriminated by the villagers of the Navy, called “marinuetos”; and on the floor of the nave read the following warning: “Do not move from here to hear Mass on vaqueiros “, other tiles indicate the place where should be buried nobles, common people, strangers, vaqueiros, children. All in all, a unique baroque piece of art.
